LAST Saturday saw another step on the path to stopping planned solar projects being rolled out at Lower Mount Walker and beyond.
The Let’s Think Renewables group joined local residents for a shipping container drop at Rosewood Warrill View Road.
The advertising campaign is raising alarm about a Battery Energy Storage Scheme at Lower Mount Walker and a so far unspecified renewables facility at Ebenezer.
Let’s Think Renewables spokesman Jim Willmott spoke to assembled residents at the unveiling.
“We are here with this Lower Mount Walker community because we want to protect our precious farmlands and we want to protect our precious wildlife from the onslaught of industrial renewables,” he said.
“This is happening all around the eastern seaboard of Australia.
“I am meeting with groups every week; in Central Queensland, they are in the exact same position.
“Strong communities are being fractured and divided and their beautiful farmlands are being covered and smothered up with solar panels.
“Their beautiful rural landscapes are being industrialised, and their way of life is changing forever; once [the rural farmland is] gone, it is gone for good – that’s why they are unrenewable.
“So please stick together, spread the word, because there are tens of thousands of people in the same boat as you, and we won’t let this happen to our rural and regional Australia.
“We will fight, and we will fight to the end, and we will win.
“We are winning, and you can see the tide turning. So, stick together.”
