AT FIRST glance, it looks more like a treehouse than a family home.
Perched three metres above the ground, with no bathroom and only a ladder to gain access, this Grandchester property has been sitting unfinished for more than a decade.
The home at 58 Gatton Street has now hit the market for $400,000.
Ray White Ipswich agent Megan Acutt said interest in the property had been “absolutely mental”, with first-home buyers and tradies eager to snap up the home.
“We’ve already had an offer from a first-home buyer, and others are keen to knock it down and start fresh,” she said.
The current owners, who bought the block in 2017 for $192,000, hired a removal specialist to hoist the three-bedroom house higher – adding an extra 1.2 metres to its existing stumps.
The idea was to fit a truck or car beneath and create three-metre ceilings. Another dwelling under the house was also on the cards.
But the plans fizzled, and for more than 10 years the structure has sat there.
The real estate ad dubs the property a “charming opportunity … plenty of scope to complete the home to your own design” in a “peaceful country setting” with “room for further improvements underneath”.
The owners are also selling the property next door – a 1,759 sqm block at 55–57 Symes Street – with offers above $775,000 being sought.
