A REGISTERED Aboriginal cultural heritage site has been identified on plans for an 1800-dwelling development at Redbank Plains.
Archaeology and cultural heritage consultant Everick Heritage stated in a development application that a registered Aboriginal cultural heritage site was identified in the project area at Hardrock Quarry on Cedar Road and Mount Juillerat Drive.
The finds were identified as artefact scatter.
“It is not possible to determine how many artefacts are at this location,” the consultant noted.
“Under the terms of the ACHA (Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act), if development activities are proposed in this area, agreement must first be reached with the YUP (Yuggera Ugarapul People) over how any impacts to this site should be managed.”
Ecology and environmental consultant 28 South wrote in another document that the site contained core koala habitat area but did not contain any koala protection area.
“Assessment against State Code 25 (development in Southeast Queensland koala habitat areas) will be required, as part of a future reconfiguration of lot application,” it noted.
Developer for the Trustee of the Vic Cumner Trust has submitted a preliminary development plan for construction of residential and non-residential uses, open space, and community facilities.
The development on the 182ha site is on an elevated land parcel and proposes low- and medium-density houses across eight precincts, with a future rail corridor reserved.
The precinct plan is on core koala habitat area.
Town planner Saunders Havill Group wrote that most homes would be detached dwellings of one to two storeys, with “higher density envisaged around the future train station”.
The application is being assessed by the council.
