Bus driver awards now open

NOW is the chance to thank the bus driver who has brought something special to your daily commute.

The award is open to all bus drivers working on public passenger services and will recognise the contribution drivers make to ensuring customers travel safely and conveniently.

The annual awards are organised by TransLink with three categories: Southeast Queensland urban bus drivers, Regional bus drivers, and School bus drivers.

The theme of this year is Share a Smile and Nominate a Bus Driver.

Head of TransLink Deborah Hume said saying thank you was a simple act.

“It can make the day better for the bus drivers and also makes the journey a happier experience for customers as they start it with good cheer,” Ms Hume said.

“The awards are one way to say, ‘thank you’ for going the extra mile in their duty.”

Southeast Queensland Bus Driver of the Year Awards winner Luluu Berns said she had been honoured to win the award last year.

“I was over the moon,” she said.

“When I heard what passengers said about me, I cried because I was so happy.”

“I always look forward to going to work each day because I greet my passengers and they greet me, so it was a privilege and an honour to get the award last year.”

The nomination period closes on December 2, with all nominations going into the draw to win $100 gift cards.
