THE city’s CBD faces another transformation with two prominent buildings, including one that is now home to Banshees Bar, being put on the market.
The properties at 131 and 133 Brisbane Street went to auction recently but failed to sell, with the sellers believed to be hoping for more than $2 million, although no fixed price has been officially listed.
One of the buildings, a large three-level structure, was once the home of Crazy Clark’s, and has stood as a character landmark in the city for decades.
Alongside it is the Banshees Bar, which was founded in May 2018 by Nina and Ken Weaver – and later taken over by Al Wheeler and Tim Glorious in 2022.
The Banshees Bar tenancy at No 131 remains secure under an existing lease valid until April 2028.
The decision to sell comes following the passing of the original owners Tom Edwards and Jeff Cooper.
Ray White is selling the building, with realtor Morrie Marsden saying shifting trends were one of the reasons for the sale.
“The rise of newer shopping centres has drawn retail activity away from the CBD,” he said.
“Also, evolving work patterns and the decline of traditional office needs have affected occupancy and vitality in the city core.”
